Rescue and assistance teams from the Manouba regional civil protection directorate interfered following a road accident at the entrance to the A3 motorway in the Mornaguia delegation.

According to the civil protection spokesperson, the accident involving two vehicle collisions caused ranging severity wounds to four passengers. They were rescued and transported to Rabta Hospital and Charles-Nicolle Hospital.

Tunisia – A road accident decimates the family of an African club player

A terrible road accident occurred last night on national road No. 5 (new Dougga road) in the Teboursouk delegation, in the Beja governorate. The accident consisted of the collision of a heavy goods vehicle with a light truck, resulting in the death of two women aged around 60.

Three other passengers, seriously injured, were treated and transported to the local hospital, where doctors confirmed the death of a 34-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman.

The victims are from the family of the former African club player, Nabil El-Missaoui, and who are his cousin, his two sisters, his mother and his aunt.

The damaged vehicles were removed from the public road.

A security source indicated that the driver of a private car knocked down, yesterday Sunday, a traffic police officer at one of the traffic points in Manaret Hammamet, while he was directing traffic, and then fled.

A 52-year-old worker passed away while 10 people, including 5 women, were wounded in the overturning of a van near the entrance to the city.

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique correspondent, Nader Meniaoui, director of the regional hospital, revealed that most of the injured were transferred to the Aghalibides surgical unit to receive the required care.

Tunisia – Gardimaou : Two dead and three injured in the collision of a Tunisian car and another Algerian

Yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, August 13, 2024, the Civil Protection Brigade in Gardimaou, in the governorate of Jendouba, was notified of a collision between a Tunisian car and an Algerian car on national road No. 6 at the Bellies Bridge.

Two ambulances, a civil protection rescue truck and a public health ambulance were dispatched to free the five injured. They suffered from various injuries of varying severity.

After being treated, they were quickly transferred to the local hospital in Gardimaou, where two of them (a Tunisian and an Algerian) died from their serious injuries.

Kairouan has the palm of road accidents of which 57% are fatal

The head of the Center-West regional district for road safety, Haithem Chaâbani, said that 57% of road accidents in the governorate of Kairouan during the first 8 months of 2024 caused deaths. However, he told TAP yesterday Friday, August 23, that despite the rise in indicators, the number of traffic accidents has decreased in the region compared to the same period in 2023.

The official reported 83 accidents between January 1 and August 20, 2024 (47 deaths and 132 injuries), compared to 95 accidents recorded during the same period last year (44 deaths and 177 injuries).

During the first 8 months of 2024, Kairouan is the leader in the national ranking in terms of the severity of accidents; then come the governorates of Sfax, Nabeul and Kasserine. Mr. Chaâbani added that speeding is the main cause of the heavy human toll, followed by distraction factors and the lack of vigilance of drivers.

Light trucks are responsible for the majority of road accidents, 35 in total for 25 deaths and 70 injuries; motorcycles follow with 35 accidents resulting in 17 deaths and 34 injuries, according to the same source.

Road accidents: 736 lives lost in eight months

According to the National Observatory of Information, Training, Documentation and Studies on Road Safety (ONSR), 736 people have died on the road in Tunisia since the beginning of the year to August 29. This is a decrease of -5.88% compared to the same period in 2023. The number of injured has decreased by -16.11%. That is 4,714 injured compared to 5,619 last year.

During the same period, road accidents decreased by -17.40% to 3,370 accidents compared to 4,080.

According to the road safety observatory, 42.4% of accidents are caused by inattention, 15.7% by speeding and more than 8.8% by failure to respect priority.

Similarly, 32.1% of road deaths are due to speeding and 28.4 to inattention. 38% of injuries are due to inattention and 18.5% to speeding.

The governorate of Tunis holds the record for the highest number of deaths in road accidents, with 90 deaths recorded since the beginning of the year.
