Schengen visa: Fees rise from next June, plus a bad surprise for “the blacklist”

The announcement was made last February, it is now official. The European Union (EU) will increase Schengen visa fees from next month. The EU was careful not to publicize it but the measure was approved yesterday, Monday May 20, by the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs...
So from June 11, 2024, Schengen visa applicants will have to spend a little more to claim the precious ticket. Administrative fees will rise by 12%, in the name of aligning with inflation, argue the Europeans. In detail, short-term visa fees for adults will increase to 90 euros (currently 80 euros). The price for children aged 6 to under 12 will increase to 45 euros, compared to 40 currently.
“The European Commission has adopted a decision to increase short-stay Schengen visa (type C visa) fees by 12% globally,” the statement said. Another unpleasant surprise awaits nationals of third countries whose governments have been judged to be uncooperative in the repatriation of their fellow citizens in an irregular situation in the EU. They will have to pay “a visa fee of 135 or 180 euros”, following the decision of the European Council…
The list of recalcitrant states has not been revealed but it will come, we can count on the Europeans for that, especially with the far-right wind blowing across the continent.
The European Commission has not yet communicated on the increase in visa fees, it should be published in the Official Journal by the end of this week. So perhaps on an individual scale we do not clearly visualize this increase and after all it has little weight compared to the dreams of El Dorado in the heads of those aspiring to emigrate. But you have to imagine the financial windfall for the EU, with this exponential increase in visa applications...
In the lot there are the brains and arms that Europeans need to strengthen their businesses, their economies, etc. ; there are also all these people whom EU countries do not want and who will never see the color of their money again after their visa applications are rejected. But be careful, there is no deception on the goods, they are perfectly informed of the risks, which does not prevent them from pursuing European chimeras and starting again, again and again.
L'annonce a été faite en février dernier, elle est maintenant officielle. L’Union européenne (UE) majorera dès le mois prochain les frais de visa
