Right now I'm reading the book "Life and Fate" by Vasily Grossman
The Soviet Union judged the book so dangerous, that not only the manuscript but also the ribbons on which it had been typed were confiscated
It is an epic tale of World War 2 about the battle of Stalingrad
I strongly recomment that book

I think my favorite story from this book is "Die Geschichte vom Suppen-Kaspar" (not sure what the name is in English). The story of a fat child who refuses to eat his soup, his parents refuse to give him anything else, and he slowly whithers away until—on the fifth day—he dies and his parents put the bowl of soup on his grave. lol
