One of my favourite ways to really wind down, and to distance myself from negativity, is to read.
❤❤

Sometimes, it's just nice to lose yourself in somebody else's story for a while, be it fact or fiction, to distance yourself and let your imagination spring to life. Oftentimes, reading somebody else's struggles and fight for survival puts your own worries into perspective.
It always amazes me how fast the hours fly when you're snuggled up nice and toasty in your jim jam's, with snuggly socks, a cosy blanket, lamp light and a huge mug of drinking chocolate, especially in winter when it's cold and dark outside and your house is warm and cosy ❤
I am an avid reader, I especially love anything historic, especially the second world war, Russian revolution, Spanish civil war, American civil war etc, but I can't read them in fact form...it bores me...I need them in story from with an added bit of romance here and there
I love to read about other countries and cultures, but.....I prefer female authors, except for Thomas Keneally's Schindler's List, and Khaled Hosseini, who wrote the very beautiful Kite Runner trilogy....these were recommended to me by a female friend living in Spain, because she knew of my love for other countries, cultures and history.
I do prefer to read multiple female perspectives though.
When first leaving rat, I couldn't read my books, because my brain was like a freakin firework display....there were sparklers, bangs, bright lights and chaos all over the place...it was all crazy in my head and I couldn't concentrate!!

I could read the same page eight times....and not be able to tell you a damn thing it said
After maybe a couple of months, I was able to read familiar books that did not demand 100% focus, and with time, I bought more new books.
So anyway, I thought a thread with book recommendations on would be good to have here, because after the worst of the healing is done, they are the perfect place to lose yourself in ❤
These are my favourite authors:
Julia Quinn (for a lighthearted, easy to read bit of romance and history)
Kate Quinn
Kate Furnival
Marina Fiorato (Italian renaissance based)
Dinah Jeffries
Pam Jenoff
Judith McNaught (still not available on Kindle
)
Deborah Rodriguez....I read the first one of hers whilst living in Tunisia, she lived in Afghanistan....her story matched my experience in many ways. I've since bought ALL her books
There are hundreds of other beautiful books I've read by individual authors.
❤❤
