Béja : 70% of domestic abuse reports concern marital violence​

Fedia Rejab, the Head of the Department at the General Directorate of the National Guard, informed Tunisie Numérique that specialized units focused on combating violence against women and children have documented numerous reports related to domestic abuse.

“70% of the judicial reports related to this abuse in the governorate of Béja involve domestic violence, while 80% of the cases of domestic abuse in the Tunis region concern violence against children,” she revealed.

According to the latest report by the association “Aswat Nissaa,” 21 cases of femicide have been registered in Tunisia since the beginning of this year.

“Twenty-one murders of women since the beginning of 2024 reflect a tragic reality that cannot be overlooked. Each victim is not just a statistic but a life lost in the context of systemic violence against women. These crimes are not isolated incidents; they represent a continuous escalation of violence,” the association remarked, calling for urgent intervention from the relevant authorities.

Aswat Nissa announced that the number of femicides has increased considerably, quadrupling between January 2018 and June 2024.

According to the report of the Ministry of Women, Children and the Elderly, 25 femicides were recorded in 2023, and 25 more until November 2024, spread over 15 governorates.

In addition, 87% of the victims were aged 18 to 59.
