Tunisia – La Goulette : Seizure of a kilo of Cocaine and a large quantity of Cannabis

The Border Police units of the La Goulette port police station were able to foil an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of drugs, well hidden inside the legs of wooden tables.

The available data indicate that the officers of the Border Police station of the port of La Goulette were suspicious of a traveler from a European country, and therefore requested that his truck be subjected to an inspection with furniture inside. After further investigation, a large quantity of drugs was found, well hidden between the legs of a wooden table, where a kilo of cocaine and more than thirty slabs of cannabis were seized.

The Public Prosecutor's Office has authorized the file to be transferred to one of the specialized security teams to continue the investigation and refer the owner of the truck to the competent authorities to carry out legal proceedings against him.

Large-scale security operation dismantles drug trafficking networks in Tunis, in accordance with president’s instructions​

Following directives from President Kais Saied to intensify efforts against criminal networks, especially those implicated in drug trafficking, a major security operation was conducted this morning, October 24, 2024, in the Greater Tunis region. Under the supervision of senior security officials and in coordination with the public prosecutor’s office, security and National Guard units executed a series of simultaneous operations targeting traffickers and high-risk criminal elements.

Result: 205 dangerous people were arrested. The operation also led to the seizure of various quantities of drugs, bladed weapons, and sums of money. This carefully coordinated action shows the authorities’ determination to dismantle these criminal networks that affect the region.

This security offensive, conducted per the President’s instructions, marks a major turning point in the fight against drug trafficking in Greater Tunis. The authorities pledge to maintain pressure on these illicit activities and to continue to protect the population from threats linked to organised crime.

Tunisia – Dismantling of a drug trafficking network operating between Kairouan and Kasserine

Menzel Temime : Person Detained for Growing Marijuana in Pots for Trade Purposes​

A joint security team, consisting of the Judicial Police Unit in Menzel Temime, the Rescue Police Unit, and the National Security Center in Menzel Temime, successfully arrested an individual who was deliberately cultivating narcotic plants for trade.

According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security, information was received revealing that an individual was growing narcotic plants with the intent to sell them. Coordinating with the Public Prosecution, the aforementioned teams went to the suspect’s home. Upon searching the premises, they found 12 pots containing marijuana plants.

Following consultation with the Public Prosecution, an order was issued to detain the individual for “cultivating and possessing narcotic substances with the intent of trading in them outside the conditions permitted by law,” as stated in the report.

In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, the spokesperson for the General Directorate of Customs Chokri Jabri indicated that as part of the fight against drug trafficking, 32 kg of cocaine, 1.1 million narcotics tablets and more than 208 kg of cannabis have been seized since the beginning of the year to the end of September 2023.

And to add that a value of 410 million dinars of contraband goods seized at the end of September 2024.

“Tunisian Customs is currently working to strengthen its human and logistical resources at border crossings to deal with drug trafficking and smuggling. We are on the right track,” assures Chokri Jabri.

Djerba-Jerjis Customs foils an attempt to traffic 1.7 kg of cannabis and cocaine

Customs officers at Djerba-Jerjis airport, in coordination with the border police, intercepted an attempt to traffic drugs including cannabis and cocaine, for a total weight of 1,700 grams.

Following suspicions raised by the joint inspection team (customs and border police) concerning the luggage of a passenger coming from abroad, the officers carried out a thorough search.

In his luggage, hidden in two boxes of chocolate, they discovered four tablets suspected of containing cannabis.

The body search then made it possible to get their hands on 13 other tablets suspected of cannabis as well as a tablet of a white substance, suspected of being cocaine.

A seizure report was drawn up and the file was transferred to the competent security authorities to continue the investigation, after consultation with the public prosecutor.

The units affiliated to the Anti-Narcotics Subdirectorate of the Judicial Police Directorate were able to unmask, yesterday, Friday, November 8, 2024, a network specialized in drug trafficking and arrest two of its members.

A search was carried out, after coordination with the public prosecutor, in a commercial store in the Mnihla region, Ariana governorate, where two individuals were apprehended, and 919 cannabis plaques weighing about 92 kilograms were seized, as well as a sum of money for 29 thousand dinars from trafficking income, and two cars used by the suspects in their travels to promote the aforementioned drugs.

After examining the prosecution of the Ariana Court of First Instance, it authorized the detention of these two individuals for drug-related and money laundering violations and included the rest of the members of the network in search, and efforts were made to arrest them.
