Officers and agents from the Sub-Directorate for Narcotics Control under the Judicial Police Directorate in El Gorjani have recently succeeded in dismantling an international drug trafficking network operating between Tunisia and a European country.

As part of a targeted security operation, police raided a residence in Hay Hlal, where they arrested a couple found in possession of 310 slabs of cannabis resin (zattla) and 100 grams of cocaine. These quantities are considered among the largest seized in recent months.

According to the authorities, the couple was directly involved in the logistics and distribution of narcotics intended for both the domestic and cross-border market. The bust represents a significant blow to organized crime networks that exploit Tunisia as a transit or storage hub.

Meanwhile, other suspected members of the network have been declared wanted, and investigations are ongoing to trace the full extent of the network and identify any potential accomplices operating within Tunisia or abroad.

This operation marks a new success for Tunisian law enforcement in its ongoing efforts to combat transnational organized crime, especially narcotics trafficking, which poses a direct threat to public health, youth, and social stability.

The authorities reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying surveillance and intervention operations, while calling for greater international cooperation in dismantling such criminal networks that often operate across multiple jurisdictions.

According to preliminary information available, officers of the Cité Ibn Khaldoun National Security Center received information indicating that a young man nicknamed “The Doctor” was involved in drug and medication trafficking. His movements were monitored, and a tight ambush was set for him. This led to his arrest and the seizure of a quantity of drugs in his possession.

Fifteen-year prison sentence for a Guinean woman arrested in La Goulette with concealed cocaine

The Criminal Division of the Tunis Court of First Instance handed down a 15-year prison sentence on Thursday, June 5, 2025, to a young Guinean woman convicted of international drug trafficking.

The events date back to the summer of 2023, when the defendant was arrested at the port of La Goulette, at the northern entrance to the Tunisian capital. During a routine customs inspection, officers discovered a large quantity of cocaine on her, concealed in capsules buried inside pairs of shoes she was carrying in her luggage.

The young woman tried to make people believe they were gifts intended for friends living in Tunisia, but the investigation quickly revealed the true nature of the contents and the defendant's presumed intentions.

The court ultimately found her guilty of illegal importation of Schedule B narcotics and possession of drugs for the purpose of resale. This case comes amid a strengthening of the fight against cross-border trafficking in Tunisia, particularly in port and airport areas.

Tunisian authorities have affirmed their determination to stem the flow of drugs from West Africa to the local or European market via Tunisian territory. The verdict handed down by the Tunis court is thus part of a firm judicial policy against international drug trafficking networks and aims to deter attempts to exploit Tunisian soil as a transit or distribution zone.

Tunisian rapper Samah Riahi, better known by his stage name Samara, appeared Thursday before the criminal chamber of the Tunis Court of First Instance in connection with a contractual dispute filed by an event organizer.

The plaintiff is seeking reimbursement for a sum paid in advance for a concert scheduled to take place in Italy, which was ultimately canceled.

A Financial Dispute Over a Cancelled Performance
According to details presented in court, the organizer accuses Samara of failing to return a financial advance received for a planned concert in Italy that never materialized.
The lawsuit is strictly civil in nature, focusing on the execution of an artistic contract.
No information has been made public regarding the exact amount in dispute or the specific reasons behind the concert’s cancellation.
Nevertheless, the court appearance comes at a time when the rapper is facing a challenging personal and legal situation.

Legal Troubles Compounded by Another Case
Samara is currently being held in pre-trial detention in a separate case involving drug possession charges. He remains in custody pending legal proceedings related to that investigation.
The artist, one of the most prominent figures in Tunisia’s rap scene, has enjoyed significant popularity in recent years, particularly among urban youth.
However, his musical career has been repeatedly overshadowed by controversy and run-ins with the law.

Tunisian rapper Samah Riahi, known by his stage name Samara, was cleared on Thursday, June 12, in one of the legal cases brought against him.

The criminal chamber of the Tunis Court of First Instance issued a ruling declaring the complaint filed by a concert promoter inadmissible.

Complaint Over Cancelled Concert Deemed Inadmissible

The case revolved around a financial advance received by the artist for a performance scheduled in an unspecified European country.

The event was later cancelled, prompting the promoter to demand reimbursement, claiming the artist had failed to honor his commitment.

Upon reviewing the case, the court found no grounds for prosecution, dismissing the contractual dispute and the charges against Samara.

Samara Still in Custody Over Drug-Related Case

Despite this favorable ruling, Samara remains behind bars. The rapper is currently in pretrial detention in connection with a separate and ongoing case involving allegations of drug possession and use. This second case, considered more sensitive, is still under investigation.

A prominent figure in Tunisia’s rap scene, Samara frequently garners media attention — both for his musical success and his legal troubles.

His case continues to spark public interest, particularly among urban youth, who follow him closely on social media.

A high-impact operation carried out Friday evening by the National Guard’s Research and Investigation Brigade led to the dismantling of a drug trafficking network in the working-class neighborhood of Ennour, in Gafsa city. According to a security source contacted by the TAP news agency, officers seized 3.5 kilograms of cannabis, ready to be distributed on the local market.

A Targeted Operation within a National Strategy

The carefully planned intervention was part of ongoing efforts to combat drug networks operating in sensitive urban areas of the region. The suspected members of the network were arrested on the spot and placed in custody under the order of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Preliminary information indicates that the seized quantity reflects the scale of this network’s activity, believed to have been operating for several weeks in and around Gafsa. Investigators suspect that the group’s operations may extend beyond the Ennour neighborhood, targeting a diverse clientele, especially young people.

Legal Procedures Underway and Public Awareness Encouraged

Legal proceedings have been initiated, and investigations are ongoing to identify possible accomplices or other storage locations. This raid adds to a series of security operations carried out in recent months across southwestern Tunisia, as part of a national anti-drug strategy.

Security authorities are calling on the public to cooperate with law enforcement and report any suspicious activity, especially as working-class neighborhoods often serve as key hubs for criminal networks.

This seizure highlights the constant vigilance of the National Guard in preventing the spread of illicit substances in Tunisia’s urban environments.

The criminal chamber of the Tunis Court of First Instance has handed down a 12-year prison sentence to a migrant woman residing abroad, who was arrested for attempting to smuggle 4 kilograms of cocaine into Tunisia.

The case stems from a recent operation conducted by customs authorities at the port of La Goulette, where the defendant was intercepted in her vehicle. A thorough search led to the discovery of the drugs carefully concealed inside the car doors.

According to judicial sources cited by Diwan FM, the investigation revealed that the woman was part of a national and international drug trafficking network, although the exact scale and potential links of the network were not disclosed.

In addition to the prison sentence, the convicted woman was also ordered to pay a fine of 100,000 Tunisian dinars, in accordance with Tunisia’s narcotics legislation.

Tunisia Under Watch: A Transit Zone Vulnerable to Smuggling

This case once again highlights the increasing risks of drug smuggling through Tunisian ports, especially La Goulette, a strategic maritime gateway for the Greater Tunis area.

Tunisian authorities—who work closely with international agencies—have stepped up border surveillance and inspection measures in recent years as part of broader efforts to combat smuggling attempts.

The 12-year sentence handed down to this migrant for cocaine trafficking reflects the firm stance of Tunisian justice in cases involving transnational drug crimes.

With this ruling, authorities aim to send a clear message of zero tolerance toward organized crime, as Tunisia continues to face illicit flows of narcotics moving to and from multiple continents.
