Romance Scams On Dating Sites

I had to draw out cash from my bank to pay for something with cash, about £2000. As well as providing additional ID I was asked loads of questions. Had to ask her if they would ask the same questions if it was a man taking out cash. She asked me what I wanted the money for. I realise they have to be aware of money laundering etc but it felt very patronising. So after lying about why I wanted the money, none of their business, and my money, she then asked was I certain I wasn’t sending money to someone I met on line? Was I being coerced into giving anyone cash? Had I seen the goods I was buying, had I verified the person I was purchasing from was the rightful owner. Good that they are trying to alert people but when I asked if they would ask a 50 year old man the same questions she admitted probably not.

Scamming is becoming very common. I think they may ask a man as well if he were older. The Amazon, computer virus and and Microsoft scammers seem to target the elderly or less computer literate people. These scammers work out of India and often ask for gift cards or they ask for cash to be couriered to a drop off somewhere.
It’s good your bank asks. It may be inconvenient for you, but it could save someone else who is being scammed.

Also, I think some professionals have been suspicious for years.

When I turned eighteen, my evil mother made me get two grands worth of three piece suite out in my name. Like all narcs, she assured me she would pay the money back 🙄

The man that was dealing with us was very suspicious....(I suspect because unfortunately, I have a painfully expressive face)...he kept looking at her stood behind me and then looking at me sat at the desk, and repeatedly asked if I was sure, telling me I didn't have to do this, it was a lot of money for my age, was the furniture for me, pointing out that I didn't live at the delivery address etc.
He knew. I know he knew my own mother was shafting me, but ultimately....he couldn't do a thing to stop it 😭

Of course, she never did pay after two or three token payments at the beginning. We had to get a bank loan out to pay it off, as we were being threatened with bailiffs.
Every time we were at her house after that, my husband was burning cigarette holes in the sofa 🤣
It was only a few years ago I discovered it was him.....my sister had always been blamed. He said as far as he was concerned, we owned it...and could do whatever the f*ck we wanted to it 😂

But anyway, even though he couldn't stop the sale, I've always held a place in my heart for that man....and I'm glad he asked questions. Had she not been stood practically up my ass, I'd have tried to find a way to have him reject the sale, but she was too close to me and I was still terrified of her.

It's good that they ask these questions, even though ultimately, people will do what people will do....it’s nice that they try and it could save a few people 😊

Here is a news update on arrest of scam ring from Australia. This type of scam is not quite the same as the scam the Tunisian rats play, but the result is very similar.

These scammers catfished their victims. But remember, just because he video chats you and you go to visit him doesn’t mean he isn’t scamming you. There is more than one variation to this thieving game.
