Tunisia – Theft from the Red Crescent office in Sousse described as strange… The strange thing is, rather, the nature of the stolen items

By LM | March 30, 2025 at 8:00 PM
In an incident described as strange, a warehouse used by the Red Crescent was burglarized and its contents stolen on Friday, according to Omar Salameh, head of the Red Crescent regional authority and national relief official.
Salameh added, in a press statement, that 50 Ramadan baskets intended for distribution to vulnerable people were stolen, as well as medical and paramedical equipment that were to be distributed to the Palestinian people, and wool blankets that were to be distributed to refugees and poor families.
If this incident was described as strange… We really don't see what's strange about a warehouse full of consumer goods, and especially one without a guard, being burglarized. On the other hand, it's the stored and stolen items that are open to debate.
It's unclear what 50 Ramadan baskets are doing in the Red Crescent warehouse on the 28th day of the holy month, why they weren't distributed, given that there are certainly around 50 families in need, and for what purpose and for what purpose are they stored there?
Secondly, what about the theft of medical supplies intended to help our Palestinian brothers in Gaza from this warehouse, when citizens had been donating them for the residents of Gaza for a year and a half, and why was it not sent there?
Thirdly, which refugees are we talking about when it comes to the wool blankets that were supposed to be provided to them?
